Title VI grant funds are awarded to local educational agencies as a formula grant (not competitive). These funds may be used for: •Teacher recruitment and retention, including the use of signing bonuses and other financial incentives; •Teacher professional development, including programs that train teachers to utilize technology to improve teaching and to train special needs teachers; •Educational technology, including software and hardware, as described in part D of Title II; •Parental involvement activities; •Activities authorized under the Safe and Drug - Free Schools program under part A of Title IV; •Activities authorized under part A of Title I; •Activities authorized under Title III. Title VI funds for Hampton County School District 2 are being used this year to promote teacher retention, to assist teachers in obtaining Gifted and Talented endorsement, to assist in providing a parent coordinator at the high school, to provide parenting materials at all schools, to provide library equipment at Estill Middle School, and to provide books for a summer reading program for Estill High School in summer 2007.
