Title I is the federal law authorized in 1965 as a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Title I was reauthorized under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB. Title I provides supplemental educational resources and services to disadvantaged children so that they can meet the challenging state performance standards developed for all children.


Efforts supported by Title I may include:

  • providing enriched and accelerated education program;
  • promoting schoolwide reform through schoolwide programs or through educational services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time;
  • significantly upgrading the quality of instruction by providing staff in participating schools with substantial opportunities for professional development; and
  • affording parents meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at home and at school.

The Hampton County School District 2 Title I allocation for 2009-2010 is $881,303. This funding supports schoolwide programs at Estill Elementary and Estill Middle Schools. Among the services provided are:

 

  • Reduced class sizes
  • Computer-assisted instruction
  • Benchmark Testing
  • Parent Coordinators
  • Mental health services
  • Supplement resources in reading, mathematics, science, and social studies
  • Staff development for teachers and assistants
  • Library resources
  • Supplemental educational services
  • Curriculum support personnel
